Parent View - Give Ofsted your view on your child's school

Issue 28, Brighstone Buzz, 24th April, 2015

It has been another bumper week at Brighstone Primary School.

Earlier this week Leopard class excitedly told me all about their recent fund raising activities. Miss Brough had given them all £1 and the challenge was to use it to raise as much money for the RNLI as possible! We clearly have a large number of young entrepreneurs amongst us, as I listened to some amazing business plans. A few children had bought a bucket and sponge and proceeded to wash cars. Others had purchased the ingredients required to bake cakes and sold them to friends and family. I was also particularly impressed by the use of free cake samples to whet the appetite of parents work colleagues! The list is endless however I think we need to look out for one young lady who is clearly a possible candidate for Dragons Den in the future! She visited a local business to find out what she could purchase with her £1 and then advertised the items on Wightbay! She has raised £50 so far and I think there is still more to sell. Congratulations Year 2 on your terrific ideas and super effort. It was clear that you had a lot of fun completing the challenge and I now know where to come when we need to raise funds for our school in the future!

I have also had the great pleasure of spending a day and a half with Panda class this week whilst Mrs. Cousins attended a training course… or at least that is what she told me she was doing but the children were adamant that she had gone to the beach  . I was struck at just how much they have progressed since September, they all wanted to show me just what they could do and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them read, sharing in their writing and eating the many dishes I was served from the mud kitchen and sand tray. Thank you Pandas, I had a lovely time.

Huge thanks to everyone who filled a bag for ‘Phil the Bag’ this week. Brighstone Primary surpassed itself again, the gentleman who came to collect it was rather surprised and it took him some time to fill the truck! I will keep you updated with how much we raised.

Have a lovely weekend.

Parent Survey – Feedback

“Brighstone School is an excellent school. Very happy with the progress my child is making”

“My child has come on in leaps and bounds and has massively surprised me. I am very happy.”

Thanks to all parents who took part in our recent Parent Questionnaire. We are proud to report that 100% of parents who responded said that their child is happy and feels safe at our school. The responses this year also show an overall improvement in the school’s performance in meeting particular pupils’ needs, supporting learning, receiving information about progress and dealing with bullying – and it was great to see that you feel we are good at keeping you well informed.

Our thanks to all parents who completed the questionnaire.
