Issue 37 Brighstone Buzz – 17th July 2020

Dear parents and carers,

Well, what a fantastic week we’ve had in school! Our Brighstolympics were held throughout this week, and every day each bubble competed in their events to win points for their hives. It was very encouraging to see so much determination, enjoyment, resilience, perseverance, laughter, teamwork and encouragement. Participating in sporting activities has a huge positive impact on wellbeing and mental health, and it has been encouraging to see lots of children at home competing in sports as part of Brighstolympics, too. See Mr Goldsmith’s report in this Buzz.

The week started and finished with socially distanced opening and closing ceremonies, in which each bubble paraded around the field to music.  There was also the opportunity to enjoy a bit of a boogie in our bubbles, and for children (and staff) to show off their dance moves!

Here in Brighstone, we encourage community links, and this was fully evident when Nancy from the local library joined in with the dancing from the other side of the school gate!
On the subject of sport, we are very pleased to announce that Brighstone has been awarded the Youth Sport Trust School Games Virtual Certificate!

This has been awarded in recognition for our support, commitment and engagement for all the work that our school has done to continue to engage our children in Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity during the Covid-19 period.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Goldsmith for making this happen, to the team for encouraging all children to participate, and to all of you for supporting us with this and engaging your children in physical activity at home and in school.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have also taken part in Children’s Art Week, and children at home and in school have been creating some amazing artwork! I particularly love the Zen doodles in Y5 and the Key Worker group.

Thank you to Mrs Rogers for organising this, and some photos of the children’s work will appear on our Facebook page very soon!

At Brighstone we believe in the importance of school and home actively working together to provide the best we can for the children. Part of this is gathering parents’ views. Last month, a parent survey was carried out and we have collated the responses. It was wonderful to see so many positive and reinforcing messages from you all! I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to you all for all your feedback and support, as well as a huge thank you to the team here at Brighstone Attached with this Buzz are the results and comments from the parent
survey, as well as our feedback in response to your queries. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Following updated advice from the government, we have been busy behind the scenes updating our risk assessments and organisational measures ready for the full reopening of school in the new academic year, and today you will receive a useful letter informing you of these arrangements. If you have any further questions about September,
please contact the school.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your continued support.

We hope you have an enjoyable weekend in the sunshine!

Best wishes,
Mrs Lennon and the Brighstone Team

Parent Survey – Feedback

“Brighstone School is an excellent school. Very happy with the progress my child is making”

“My child has come on in leaps and bounds and has massively surprised me. I am very happy.”

Thanks to all parents who took part in our recent Parent Questionnaire. We are proud to report that 100% of parents who responded said that their child is happy and feels safe at our school. The responses this year also show an overall improvement in the school’s performance in meeting particular pupils’ needs, supporting learning, receiving information about progress and dealing with bullying – and it was great to see that you feel we are good at keeping you well informed.

Our thanks to all parents who completed the questionnaire.
