Issue 32 Brighstone Buzz – 12th June 2020

Dear parents/carers,

Another week has gone by and it really feels like we’re speeding towards the summer holidays. There have been
some further developments about Covid-19 in the news this week, and you will have heard the decision made by
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson to shelve plans for all primary school children to return to school for a
month before the summer break. He did, however, state that ‘if schools had the capacity they could take more
pupils if they chose’. While we would gladly be able to welcome back more children to Brighstone, this is a decision
that cannot be taken lightly due to the many implications that this entails, and so we are awaiting further advice
from the Local Authority. We will keep you informed.

The children continue to work hard in school and at home, and, whilst we have been celebrating some of this
amazing learning on our Facebook page, we are all missing the opportunity to share these successes during Golden
Worship. Therefore, we have decided to introduce ‘Superstar Awards’ for the remainder of the summer term.
Members of staff will nominate children in school or at home who deserve an award. These awards could be for
Achievement, Behaviour or Community, and these will be shared in the weekly Buzz. Children will also receive
certificates, and those at home will have them posted to them – so keep an eye out for the postie!
While we are on the subject of awards, we are proud to announce that Brighstone has won a Recognition
Certificate from the School Games Organisers, for the autumn and spring terms. As Mr Goldsmith states ‘The
School Games Mark Award has been postponed for this school year due to the current pandemic. However, the
School Games Organisers are able to reward schools with a Recognition Certificate and a Virtual Award Certificate
based on commitment during this academic year in place of the usual award.’ Schools achieve this award for
activities such as:
– Entering competitions
– Offering a varied range of sporting activities to pupils
– Promoting leadership opportunities through the school sports crew
– Increasing participation in sport
– Linking with local clubs
– Promoting the School Games values
Well done to Mr Goldsmith and all our children who have taken part in sporting activities this year so far. I know
you will agree that we are very lucky to benefit from Mr Goldsmith’s commitment, dedication and enthusiasm.

We wish you all a lovely weekend!

Best wishes,

Mrs Lennon and the Brighstone Team

Parent Survey – Feedback

“Brighstone School is an excellent school. Very happy with the progress my child is making”

“My child has come on in leaps and bounds and has massively surprised me. I am very happy.”

Thanks to all parents who took part in our recent Parent Questionnaire. We are proud to report that 100% of parents who responded said that their child is happy and feels safe at our school. The responses this year also show an overall improvement in the school’s performance in meeting particular pupils’ needs, supporting learning, receiving information about progress and dealing with bullying – and it was great to see that you feel we are good at keeping you well informed.

Our thanks to all parents who completed the questionnaire.
