Listen to parents on music service future

From Jean Wavell, Brighstone:

Ref: article Music hub future probed (CP, 14-03-14)

A consultation is vital to look at this sad state of affairs.

The range of people being included looks fairly broad but I feel one important group has been omitted.

As one who has seen my own children benefit from the system, and knowing that neither parental musicianship or sufficient finance were available for them to have benefited from music tuition without the IW Music Service, I am very aware of the need to uphold the music hub in the best way possible.

I, therefore, suggest that a way is found to include parents in this consultation.

They would surely have the passion to work to finding solutions, the problem must be dear to them as it is to me.

Music is such an incredibly fulfilling experience.

The Island has long been known for its excellent music tuition and the obvious results are to be seen in the many choirs and orchestras.

So I ask the cabinet to look again at who they invite, and I would hope that those involved will grasp the opportunity, not to use it as a place to argue the case for better funding, even though more money is desperately needed, the challenge is to find ways of providing as good a service as possible within the financial limits.

Parent Survey – Feedback

“Brighstone School is an excellent school. Very happy with the progress my child is making”

“My child has come on in leaps and bounds and has massively surprised me. I am very happy.”

Thanks to all parents who took part in our recent Parent Questionnaire. We are proud to report that 100% of parents who responded said that their child is happy and feels safe at our school. The responses this year also show an overall improvement in the school’s performance in meeting particular pupils’ needs, supporting learning, receiving information about progress and dealing with bullying – and it was great to see that you feel we are good at keeping you well informed.

Our thanks to all parents who completed the questionnaire.
