Welcome to The Nest!
Our new resourced provision, The Nest, has been established primarily to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs and/or autism. The provision accommodates a maximum of 12 pupils and delivers a child-led curriculum, informed by individual interests, within a nurturing and communication-friendly environment. Where appropriate, pupils will be supported to integrate gradually into their mainstream classroom in order to develop relationships with peers in line with our inclusive ethos. This process will be carefully managed and guided by the needs and readiness of each child.
We have four rooms in The Nest, including a Sensory Circuits room and a Light Room, and a dedicated outdoor space with a nest swing and a ‘Cosy Cabin’.
What are Resourced Provisions?
Resourced Provisions are specialist environments within mainstream schools, providing a more tailored environment to support pupils with identified special educational needs (SEN), detailed in an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). They often focus on particular needs, such as autism, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). These provisions offer smaller class sizes, specialist facilities, and extra support from teachers and teaching assistants to help pupils access the mainstream curriculum.
How do they work?
It is believed that pupils learn best when integrated as much as possible with their peers and resourced provisions offer this balance. The goal is to support pupils to access the mainstream school environment and curriculum when appropriate. They are staffed by teachers and teaching assistants with specialist skills in meeting the needs of the specific pupils. They can provide a base for therapies and other interventions. Many provisions include areas like sensory rooms or calm-down spaces for pupils who need them.
