School Reorganisation

6 / 10 / 2009

5th October 2009

Dear Parents,

The Isle of Wight Council’s move towards a two-tier education system has taken a major step forward.
The authority has approved all the statutory notices that were widely advertised and set out how each Island school would fit in with the proposals.

The only change to the notices is that Chale Primary has been given a further two months to present viable proposals for a federation with another school or schools. If it fails to do so, then the school will close as per the notices.

The council has also agreed preferred bidders to run six new schools created under the re-organisation – five secondary schools based around the existing highs and the new East Cowes primary school.

The decisions were taken by the Full Council on Wednesday last week during a six-hour meeting and then ratified by cabinet last Thursday.

Further details can be found by visiting: http://www.iwight.com/council/committees/cabinet/1-10-09/minutes.pdf

For Brighstone Primary, this means that we will enlarge and extend to take children in Years 5 and 6. Therefore our current Year 4 children, will be the first to remain at Brighstone until the end of Year 6. As soon as myself and the Governing Body are in possession of any further details as to how this process of change will take place at Brighstone, we will of course inform you. There will be minimal disruption and both the academic and emotional needs of your children will be at the forefront of all decisions made by the school during this period of change.

Yours sincerely,

Amanda Johnston
