Home to School Bus transport 2011/2012

16 / 7 / 2011

A letter from our Transport Officer…

It is intended that the Home to School Transport Bus service arrangement that is currently in place for Brighstone Primary School will remain the same for the next academic year commencing September 2011. Parents/Guardians of students travelling by taxi will be notified of the taxi arrangements in August in advance of the new academic year.

For the latest Home to School Transport information, Parents/Guardians of students currently attending or starting at Brighstone Primary School are advised to visit the Council School Transport webpage: www.iwight.com/schooltransport . The web page will be updated with the entire Home to School Bus service arrangements for the new academic year at the beginning August. For further information please contact the School Transport Team via email: transport.info@iow.gov.uk or by phone 01983 823780.

On the first morning of the new academic year, only those students who are eligible for free Home to School transport will be permitted to travel on the school bus without a Scholars Term Ticket. Term tickets will need to be collected from the Reception/Student Services prior to the journey home that day. Brighstone Primary School will be issued with Term Tickets, timetables and students lists for contracted Home to School Bus services just prior to the first day of the academic year.

Parents/Guardians of students who are not eligible to free Home to School Transport and would like to purchase a spare seat on a contracted Home to School bus should contact the Council call centre on 821000 or visit the Council School Transport webpage to complete an online application form for a Spare Seat Scholars Term Ticket. The School Transport Team will review all applications in mid August to ascertain if a spare seat can be allocated and those who have been allocated a spare seat will be contacted. The cost of a Spare Seat Scholars Term Ticket is calculated at a rate of £1 per day, payable for the full term or pro rata for the remaining days in a term in advance.

May I also take this opportunity to draw to the attention of Parents/Guardians and students the School Transport Code of Good Practice which outlines the various ways in which everyone who is in some way involved in school transport can help to make it as safe as possible. The Code of Good Practice can also be viewed and downloaded from the Council School Transport webpage.”
