Hello! We are 12 children from Years 3, 4 and 5.
Each Wednesday, we are heading into Brighstone Forest with our Headteacher Miss Johnston and helper Jan, to take part in Forest Schools. We are alo being helped by Kathy and Chris from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
We are having a lot of fun and want to share it with you, so some of us will be writing a blog of things that we have done each week. We hope that you enjoy it!

First we put in our danger flags. We didn’t have to put in our boundary folags today, because the adults had arrived earlier and done this for us whilst they were setting up. We collected up dry twigs for tinder and elderberry fluff for the fire. We then played a game. There were 20 sock snakes and 7 frogs and we had to try and collect them all. We also looked at our dens and ours had changed completely. James and Ben said that they had come up to the Forest at the weekend. We found a secret place for bracken and ferns. We toasted bread rolls over the open fire and were allowed to eat them in our dens. It was quite crowded but we just about managed it. We began to make a den book and then it was time to go. By Joshua
Today we made our bread. We also had a game to play with 7 frogs and 20 sock snakes and carried on with our dens. We toasted our rolls on the open fire and then made our den books. This was my favourite part. We didn’t think that Chris and Kathy were going to turn up today, but they did in the end. By Sam
When we went to Forest Schools this week, we finished our dens and toasted our bread. I also made a secret weapon to stop other groups from entering our dens. By Joel
We went into the forest and made our dens better. We also got to eat our strawberries on toast and it was very, very good. We had to find frogs and snakes as well. Next week we will have the best ever time at Forest Schools. By Jack
Up in Brighstone Forest, Jack, Charlie and myself, made a camp and toasted a piece of bread. It was good and warming. In the beginning, we got changed into our clothes and got going. When we got to the forest we had to wait for a long time until Chris and Kathy could come down and open the gate. After that the mini-bus took us up to our camp. We lit the fire and that was a good feeling. We played a game called snakes. It was good fun doing our camp today. At the end, we said goodbye to Chris and Kathy. By James
First we played a game of frogs and snakes. We had to find wooden frogs and sock snakes. I found three socks. Then I made my own fire. I picked my own things. Next, we worked on our dens. First I took off the bracken and then I put on new bracken. Finally I toasted some bread with my toasting fork. By Charile
Today we used our toasting forks to toast our bread over the fire. I enjoyed doing some more work on my den. By Harry
First we went to collect some thistledown for the fire. We also put leaves on our dens. We played a game of frogs and snakes. We used our toasting forks to make some toast which we cooked over the fire. By Jacob
We went to get some fire wood first, becuase we didn’t know where Chris and Kathy were. We played frog and snake hunt. We had to look for frogs and snakes but they were really stuffed socks and painted cardboard. We toasted some toast and then ate it. Kathy liked the look of mine the best. Chris saved us because he unlocked the gate. Marion didn’t have the key and we were about to come back to school! By Thomas
First we got some thistledown for the fire. We put lots of leaves on our dens today. Next we went on a frog and snake hunt. Then we made some toast over the fire. We went to get some more fire wood before we went back to school. I stunk of fire! By William,
First we got changed into our waterproof trousers and tops and then we got on the mini-bus. However, when we got there, Chris and Kathy were already in the forest, but we thought they were not! Then Marion came up and we got into the forest. Next, we went to our dens. Kathy gave our group 2 glow sticks. This was the best part – with our toasting forks, we got to turn bread into toast and then played a cool game where you had to collect snakes and frogs. The snakes weren’t real! Around our dens we found some sweet chestnuts. If you put them on your carpets, they keep the spiders away! Then we got back to school. By Joe
Today we first played a game when we had to find 20 snakes and 7 frogs that were hidden on the forest floor. Then we made our den book, where we described what we could see, hear and smell in our dens. Last of all, we toasted the bread over the open fire using our toasting forks. Then we ate the toast in our dens. By Ben.
