We have got four Literacy units this term:
Narrative – Stories with familiar settings;
Narrative – Stories by the same author;
Non-fiction – Non-chronological reports;
Poetry – Patterns on the page.
Our new unit of work is ‘non-chronological reports’ which are also known as information texts! We are reading lots of types of reports, and identifying the structures, features, style of language, vocabulary used and so on. Our outcome is to write our own non-chronological reports about an aspect of castle life, ready for our castle museum.

In Numeracy this term we will be looking at the properties of numbers; e.g. odd and even numbers, two-digit numbers (tens and units), counting and partitioning; calculations including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division; shape, measure, data and so on. We will also start learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Phew!
CASTLES AND CASTELLATIONS
In this topic the children will learn all about the history of castles over the years and how their purpose and role in the community has changed, from military defence and homes to tourist attractions. We will look at the defence mechanisms that were invented and used, before making our own in D&T. We will explore the social side of castles – the lives of people who lived and worked in castles throughout history, from knights, lords, ladies, servants, cooks and so on in the past, through to tour guides and volunteers in the present day. We will also learn about the lives of significant people connected to Carisbrooke Castle, including Countess Isabella de Redvers, King Charles I and Princess Beatrice, and how they influenced and changed the castle over the centuries.
In Music the children will explore long and short sounds and beat and rhythm, as well as listening and dancing to medieval music.
