NEWS FROM MRS PUGH
Welcome back after a wet but wonderful half term holiday, I was pleased to hear that many of you participated in the fantastic Jubilee Day celebrations in Brighstone, Chale and the West Wight as well as the Island and indeed across the country. The school has been as busy as ever and it is amazing just how much we can squeeze into a four day week. On Tuesday it was the last Forest Schools for this group of children from KS1. Despite the rain, all children and staff had a lovely, if muddy, walk to the beach through the forest, beachcombing on their way. We are looking forward to arranging more Forest Schools for KS1 in the future. Meanwhile the Reception class ventured off to Briddlesford Farm to meet the animals ‘Billy the Bull’ and find out about milk production. On Thursday it was the turn of Y1 and Y3 to visit Ventnor Botanical Gardens and Medina Valley Centre respectively. Both classes were exploring the fauna and habitats of pond and garden and for once the weather relented and the sun shone. Next week, Year 4 are looking forward to their Kingswood adventure residential and Year 5 are off to explore the wonders of the deep at the Blue Reef Aquarium Southsea. It is a credit to the whole school staff that all these wonderful learning experiences and opportunities occur and I thank them for all their hard work in arranging transport, assessing risks, planning and giving up their time so that these trips can go on.
I would like to welcome Ariki Sommerfield to Brighstone, he has settled in quickly and enjoying coming to school with his big brother. An amazing £1100 was raised by Brighstone pupils and their families for the Hospice, by Walking the Wight. Certificates were given to all who participated and a cheque was handed over to Louise Watson from the Hospice in Golden Assembly today. Finally, I would like to thank all the staff and pupils who have worked so hard this and every week to make Brighstone the ‘Outstanding’ school it is, keep it up and at the end of July I’ll let you have a holiday!
