This has been the final week of our autumn term topics and what a culmination it has been! It was a pleasure to visit Year 3 showcasing their super myths on Wednesday. The language and animation in these stories is simply superb – for details on how to view them for yourself, please see the details on pg.2 of the Buzz! I also very much enjoyed Year 1’s special assembly to illustrate some of their local history work. I particularly liked their marching and stunning crowns – maybe they could offer a design service to Kate Middleton ahead of her big day! Sadly, I was teaching and missed Year 4’s tea dance but I know that a good time was had by all and £79.50 was raised for the Stairway to Heaven Bethnal Green Tube Disaster Fund. Fantastic! This week we also welcomed Dylan to Thorpe Class. I hope that you will make Dylan and his family feel very welcome. Today parents of children in Years 1-5, should receive an envelope containing their autumn term report. The folder is for you to keep at home and add to each term. At the rear of the folder is an explanation of the report sections and National Curriculum levels. We hope that parents will find this timely information useful, rather than waiting until the end of the academic year to receive a full report. We are now approaching our busiest time of year and I would ask parents to ensure that book bags are checked for letters and dates/times are entered onto calendars so that events are not missed! I hear that snow is predicted for tomorrow and I am scheduled to be in Windsor so, weather permitting, I hope to see you all on Monday! Miss Johnston :)

I have had an interesting week which began when I attended a Head teacher’s conference in London. During the event, I was fortunate to meet Michael Gove (the Secretary of State for Education) and gain a small insight into the new government’s proposals for education. I have also been extremely busy working on our plans for the second phase of reorganisation, including accommodating a further year group and adapting other aspects of the school. I hope to be able to provide parents with an update on this after Christmas. However, I have to say that it was a pleasure to return to school to hear Year 4 enjoying a samba session and see Year 3 working on fractions with Smarties! Thank you to those of you who have ‘shown your spots to raise lots’ today. Your kind donations will go directly to the ‘Children in Need’ charity. Next Friday, parents with children in Years 1-5 will receive an autumn term report for their child – you may remember that we have changed to termly reporting rather than a longer report at the end of the academic year. Parents will receive this report in a special folder to be kept at home and added to each term. Parental consultation meetings are being held the following week for which everybody should have received an appointment time. This will be an opportunity for you to discuss any particular aspects of the report with the class teacher and focus on how your child can be supported, at both home and school, to continue to make progress. I do hope you will all make use of this valuable opportunity. Wishing you all a very happy weekend. Miss Johnston :)

What a soggy and grey week it has been! Sadly our football match, football club and cross country event were cancelled but Year 4 did (eventually) manage to get to the DDay Museum in Portsmouth and had a super day! The highlight of the week was the fashion show on Monday evening, which was brilliantly supported. Thank you to the BSA for their organisation of this to raise funds towards our new classroom. Wishing you all a drier weekend. I'm now heading up to London for a conference but am looking forward to being back in school on Wednesday. Miss Johnston :)

Remember, remember the 5th November! Even though the school was only open to pupils for 4 days this week, we've crammed a lot in! The army have been in undertaking 'drill' with Year 4, the Eco Schools Council have been evaluating the local cycleways and the new Brighstone Book Club began! Lots more news contained within the Buzz and attachments. Enjoy shopping in the new Waitrose this weekend! I'm off there now! Miss Johnston :)
